Español Although the UESF Educators Strike is over, WE ARE NOT FINISHED! We are still bargaining and need to exert pressure so we can continue to work under a fair and…

Although the UESF Educators Strike is over, WE ARE NOT FINISHED!

We are still bargaining and need to exert pressure so we can continue to work under a fair and just contract.

Please join us on March 10, 2026 @ 5:30pm @ 555 Franklin before the start of the School Board Meeting. We will be rallying and reminding SFUSD that this fight is not over. We need all hands on deck and we need at least 10-15 people to make public comments to remind SFUSD that we are still here! We especially need members to make comments in languages other than English.

Every Tuesday is Purple TUESDAY!

Please wear your Union T Shirts or purple every TUESDAY!!

The Union and District met on February 25, 2026 from 9:30 am- 2:30pm. This was the first time we met since before the strike.

The Union shared several counterproposals with the District. The Union rejected the District’s proposal to add expansive subcontracting language making it easier to contract out our work. Instead, the Union proposed keeping the original Article 11 language which has specific protections for our members.

We are very close to an agreement regarding Catastrophic Leave which would make it easier to access donated hours when you have a leave approved. A few minor changes to make the language clearer are needed.

In Article 14, there are two separate areas of focus for the Union–shift bidding and work assignments. The District would like to reduce the number of workers who are allowed to bid and the union has rejected that language. In addition, the Union proposed language regarding:

Pay for time and travel for members who are traveling between worksites

not allowing the routine use of electronic surveillance for verifying attendance

An end to extra hours by following the state rules about long-term assignments

Allowing for the option of staff alternative work schedules including alternative locations.

In Article 16, the Union proposed that clerical staff have access to a sub list to fill short-term clerk absences. The District acknowledged there is a need for such clerical substitutes but would not commit to developing a pool for short-term absences.

At our last session in January, the District proposed changes to Discipline and Discharge language and our ability to arbitrate written warnings. The Union rejected this language and will not give up any language about our rights in arbitration.

As a team, we still need to discuss our Employee Protections proposal. We are waiting for more information from the District on a few important points.

As for a pay raise, SFUSD proposed a 6% salary increase over three years. In response, we proposed an 18% pay increase over the same three-year period. The District has not yet responded to our proposal.

At 5:30 am, the UESF bargaining team came to a tentative agreement with SFUSD that will have lasting impacts on students, communities, and our city.As the educators’ strike at SFUSD comes to an end, we honor the citywide solidarity that made this victory possible. That means YOU! There was purple power across this city, at school sites, and front and center at rallies attended by thousands.

Classified professionals, educators, families, students, and community members stood united and forced SFUSD to put students first.SFUSD schools will now move closer to the stability our students deserve: fully funded family healthcare, improved wages to attract and retain dedicated educators, stronger protections against special education workload, limitations on AI and outsourcing, Sanctuary Schools for our SF students and families, and an extension of the Stayover Program. While our work at the bargaining table continues, this moment proves what is possible when we stand together. In a city marked by deep disparities, our collective power has reshaped what once seemed impossible.

When we organize, show up, and refuse to back down, we build the schools and the future our students deserve.
When we fight, we win!RETURNING TO WORKWhile this is a transition day for educators and students, our staff has been directed to return to work at their normally scheduled work times today.

Nonprofit community health, maintenance, and clerical workers at Progress Foundation are fighting for safe staffing and a fair contract. SEIU members from SFUSD joined their fight today because we know, it’s all one fight.

It’s time for all the bosses in San Francisco to realize this is a union town, and union workers stand together for safety, for high quality services, and for fair wages.

We’ve been bargaining with Progress Foundation management for several months now and have yet to come to an agreement on the things that matter most to us: better wages, benefits, time off, and safe staffing!

Tell the Progress Foundation it’s time to come to the table with a fair contract.

Español 中文

We are so proud and grateful for every member who has joined the picket lines and stood strong this week. SEIU leadership will continue to strike in sympathy with our union siblings. If you can continue to hold the line, please do. That said, the strike is indefinite and we understand if you can no longer join the picket line.

SEIU1021 members have shown incredible solidarity on the frontlines with our siblings at UESF—from City Hall to Ocean Beach and every public school in between. The strength in our numbers has undoubtedly contributed to the progress UESF is making with their contract, and we are confident that it will contribute toward a fair contract for all of our SEIU members as well.

Here are other ways you can continue to show your support:

Wear your union gear when you report to work

Join a picket line or rally before or after work

Share the GoFundMe link with folks who may be able to donate

Add our SEIU email signature to your email

Use our Zoom background in meetings

Make sure your coworkers update their contact info so we can keep them informed

We’ve started a GoFundMe to support members who can’t afford the lost pay from striking. Please like, donate, and share if you can:
https://gofund.me/a15b91a59

More people were out on the strike lines today than yesterday, and the momentum is real.

The energy at Ocean Beach was amazing, so let’s keep that energy going. UESF has made progress at the table; however, schools remain closed. We saw more SEIU1021 members AND staff, more parents, more SFUSD staff, including UASF, Local 21, and the broader community. It is so encouraging to see the love and commitment continue and stand in solidarity. As a labor movement, we have been holding steady and are not crossing the picket. We are extremely proud of each and every one of you!

We will have some supplies at Grattan Elementary tomorrow (165 Grattan Street, San Francisco, 94117), 7:30 a.m.- 9:30 a.m., for kids to make Valentine’s picket signs. We’ve got poster board, cardboard, paint markers, and paint! More supplies are welcome!

With the announcement that schools are closed tomorrow, we can confirm what we know thus far:

Morning Pickets:

Every school/work site – 30 min before the First Bell

Afternoon Rally:
12 PM — Rally and March

Justin Herman Plaza

One day longer, one day stronger.

Plan to attend another emergency general membership meeting Friday, 2/13, at 6pm. We will share the link tomorrow.

See you all on the picket line!

1. Usa tu uniforme sindical al presentarte a trabajar.

Si puedes, dale a “me gusta”, dona y comparte:
https://gofund.me/a15b91a59

(165 Grattan Street, San Francisco, 94117), 7:30 a.m.- 9:30 a.m.

Justin Herman Plaza (1 Market Street)

Members of SEIU 1021 are here and we are proud to stand with UESF and the educators at SFUSD.

We come from different professions. We come from different neighborhoods and backgrounds, but we are all in the same fight.

We all know what thriving schools look like. Healthy classroom sizes, livable wages, and happy, safe students. But district management clearly doesn’t understand what it takes to make schools thrive. That’s why we’re here today.

They push back against educators, they push back against sanctuary schools, they push back against critical special education funding, and they push back against wage increases.

They claim to be in fiscal crisis.

Meanwhile, they have a seemingly endless well for payroll systems that don’t pass, for exorbitant executive cabinet member salaries, and a raise that gave Maria Su a base salary of $385,000.

SEIU members are going unpaid to strike in solidarity with UESF because their fight is our fight.

Because we are tired of being ignored and treated like second-class citizens.

Because we are tired of paying for the district’s bad decisions.

Our members are some of the lowest-paid workers in the district that they are sacrificing because they can’t take this anymore.

We have custodians literally carrying garbage bins on their backs, up and down stairs, because the district refuses to fix elevators at their schools.

The mayor said yesterday he wanted schools to be open so our kids could be in school.

Mayor Lurie, your kids go to private school.

Please listen to the people who are actually at school sites fighting these battles every single day.

So let’s hear it for SFUSD, educators, the UESF, and everybody at the school site!

Thank you. Truly. What we witnessed today was powerful.

We are so proud of each and every one of you for standing shoulder to shoulder with our teacher and para siblings. Walking school sites and joining picket lines filled with purple power was inspiring. Our strength was visible and it’s growing.

Union members, families, and students showed up in force. Thousands of us rallied together at Civic Center Plaza.

UESF and the District are bargaining tonight, and we are hopeful for good news. Until we hear more, below is what you can do to keep supporting the strike:

Join the picket at your neighborhood school or your school site.

There is a chance of rain tomorrow, mostly in the afternoon.

Ponchos are available at the union hall, along with shirts, signs, and snacks for anyone who needs them. Please come through starting at 7:00 am (Address: 350 Rhode Island Street). We will have coffee and donuts.

Come to the big rally tomorrow at noon at Dolores Park.

The District is in disarray, and they are finally learning what we have always known: they cannot run without us.

One day longer. One day stronger.

Please join the picket line tomorrow! It’s not too late.

Gracias.

Our sympathy strike begins today. Stand with UESF and all workers in SFUSD to protect our schools and communities.

Why are the teachers striking?

The District has not made contract proposals that the members of UESF can accept regarding family healthcare, wages, and special education workloads. The District is demanding larger class sizes to pay for wages, and less time to prepare. You can read more at https://wecantwait.info/parents/uesf or https://www.uesf.org.

How long will this go on?

We don’t know yet, it’s up to the District to come back to the table with acceptable proposals. There has been progress over the weekend, as the District finally acknowledged their responsibility to protect our immigrant students and families. The parties are back at the table today starting at noon.

What should I do to support the strike?

Yesterday, you received a “Staff Redeployment Assignment Email”. **If you plan to strike, you should ignore it.**

DO NOT SHOW UP at your deployment site. Instead, join your school’s picket line. If your work location is not at a school site, if you work in the central office, or at multiple school sites, please consider joining one of the following picket lines listed here:

Presidio Middle School, 450 30th Avenue, starting at 7:30 am

Marina Middle School, 3500 Fillmore Street, starting at 7:30 am

Rally at Civic Center Plaza, starting at 1:00 pm

PLEASE NOTE: The rally location has changed.

IF YOU ARE ALSO AN SFUSD PARENT – you can download the learning packets provided by the district, but DO NOT sign the form. Signing the form could extend the strike by giving the District money to pay scabs.

English

Please read this message carefully and learn what you can do to support the SFUSD Teachers (UESF) Strike starting on Monday, February 9th. This is the latest information we have. Make sure every SEIU-represented member at your school or worksite is signed up to receive updates by going to https://seiu-sfusd.org/update. Make sure we have your personal cell phone number so we can keep you updated.

Why are the teachers striking?

The District has not made contract proposals which the members of UESF can accept regarding family healthcare, wages, and protections for our immigrant students and families. You can read more at https://wecantwait.info/parents/uesf or https://www.uesf.org.

What should I do or NOT do if I am supporting the strike?

Yesterday you received a “Staff Redeployment Assignment Email”. If you plan to strike you should ignore it.

DO NOT SHOW UP to your deployment site. Instead, join your school’s picket line. If your work location is not at a school site, if you work in the central office or at multiple school sites, please consider joining one of the following picket lines listed here:

Presidio Middle School, 450 30th Avenue, starting at 8:30 am

Marina Middle School, 3500 Fillmore Street, starting at 8:30 am

Rally at Civic Center Plaza, starting at 1 pm

PLEASE NOTE: the location of the rally has changed.

IF YOU ARE ALSO AN SFUSD PARENT – you can download the learning packets provided by the district, but DO NOT sign the form. Signing the form could extend the strike by giving the District money to pay scabs.

What do I tell my supervisor if they ask if I’m coming in?

You do not have to tell your supervisor your plans to participate in union activity. You can ignore their emails and text messages.

Do I need to tell my supervisor or Red Rover about my strike plans?

By not showing up to your redeployment site, the district will know that you are taking part in labor actions. Let the district mark you absent and change your Red Rover status.

DO NOT LOG INTO Red Rover at all. Currently, you can ONLY select “Unpaid Labor Action”. Let the District figure this out.

Can I call in sick to support the strike?

DO NOT CALL IN SICK if you are striking.

Per our contract, you do not need a doctor’s notes until you have been absent for more than 5 days. However, on Tuesday, the Board of Education gave emergency powers to the Superintendent and those new rules were sent to us via email on Friday. The district is requiring doctor’s notes if you plan to take a sick day during the strike. If you have a scheduled doctor’s appointment or are sick, please be sure to get a doctor’s note to cover you.

If you call in sick and are striking instead, you could be disciplined for misuse of sick time.

What if the strike lasts more than a few days?

No one knows how long the strike could last. However, the stronger we stand together the shorter the strike will be. We will communicate the latest updates as we receive them. For now, please know that schools are closed on Monday and you should join the picket line.

Why should I support the strike? It’s not our strike and what if the teachers don’t join us when we strike?

Crossing this picket line undermines our own contract negotiations which we are currently in. If the district sees unity now, it will be to our advantage in our ongoing negotiations. If too many of us cross, the district is less likely to meet our contract demands.

Also, school administrators represented by the United Administrators Union have a signed contract with the district and they are even planning to join the strike in solidarity. Our union, SEIU 1021, and other unions are striking in solidarity. We must stay united. If and when we go on strike, our union siblings have committed to joining us. We are all in support of each other. We are stronger together. Do not let the district divide us.

How do I support the strike?

Show up to your school site or a site close to your home, wearing your purple gear. Sign in for the picket with the UESF strike captain, who will probably be wearing a red vest.

Most picketing at school sites will take place between 7:45-11 am. Afterwards, please join UESF for a rally at Civic Center Secondary School at 727 Golden Gate. Please note: location has changed since our meeting this morning.

I need an SEIU t-shirt. How can I get SEIU gear?

Letizia, our SEIU union rep, will be at our Union Hall on Monday, February 9th starting at 5 am to help pass out t-shirts, beanies, megaphones, whistles and signs. Come and pick up supplies if you need them.

Union Hall address is 350 Rhode Island but our offices are around the back, across from 380 Kansas Street. Please knock on the plate glass windows to the right of the double glass doors and you will be let in.

Who can I contact if I need support with picketing?

Does your picket line need water or other supplies? Please text 510-501-1729 to coordinate.

Do you have other questions?

Please contact your Union Leaders via email (help@seiu-sfusd.org) and we will contact you right away. On Monday we will all be on picket lines, so please be patient with our response times.
