San Francisco Unified School District and County Office of Education
Administrative Regulation 4033
Lactation Accommodation
This Administrative Regulation applies to the San Francisco Unified School District and the County Office of Education.
The Governing Board believes that striving towards ideal conditions for the health and equity of breastfeeding parents is necessary in order to preserve and perpetuate ongoing improvements and future success.
Accordingly, the Governing Board aspires to promote the health and equity of breastfeeding parents in the workplace by not only eliminating barriers to breastfeeding but also by working towards offering more ease and comforts in the lactation space. When convenient and possible, the District-provided lactation spaces should include a sink in close proximity, comfortable seating, a table or countertop, cleaning wipes, footstool, and music or photographs.
Additionally, the District is encouraged to translate, post, and distribute the related Board Policy to employees, provide locks on the private lactation space, and to make available refrigerators with dedicated space for breast milk storage.
