San Francisco Unified School District and County Office of Education
Board Policy 4351
Administrative and Supervisory Personnel – Employee Compensation
This Board Policy applies to the San Francisco Unified School District and the County Office of Education.
Compensation Philosophy
The Governing Board is committed to providing each student with an equal opportunity to achieve his or her maximum potential. To enact this mission, the District relies on the incredible work and talents of its staff. To attract, retain, and recognize staff who meaningfully impact students’ lives, the District offers:
- Fair competitive compensation and a supportive, dynamic work environment
- A vibrant network of professionals in one of the largest, most dynamic school districts in California who share a commitment to being student-centered, fearless, socially committed, and diversity-driven in our work
- Comprehensive compensation packages including salary and benefits
- Equitable compensation based on clear job responsibilities with differentiation where needed based on specific contributions we value, including: exceptional results that propel our work forward; unique skills and experiences, gained within or outside the district, that enrich the work commitment of staff who build long-term, high-quality careers at the district; opportunities to grow and develop by taking on new challenges and new leadership responsibilities, both within an existing role and into new roles
- A clearly communicated compensation system, so that staff understand what factors determine individual compensation and how compensation decisions are made.
The Board of Education recognizes the tension between the District’s funding model and the competitive market in which the District exists. The District strives to attract and retain top talent while serving as a responsible steward of public funds.
