Board Policy 4261
Classified Employees – Leaves
This Board Policy applies to the San Francisco Unified School District and the County Office of Education.
The Governing Board shall provide for paid and unpaid leaves of absence for represented classified employees, unrepresented confidential employees, and unrepresented classified employees who are not supervisory or management.
This policy is in accordance with law, Board policy, administrative regulation, the Contract between San Francisco Unified School District and United Educators of San Francisco covering Classified Personnel July 1, 2014-June 30, 2017 (“UE USP Contract”), and the City and County of San Francisco’s Civil Service Commission Rule 120 (“Rule 120”), as applicable.

The Board recognizes the following justifiable reasons for employee absence:
- Personal illness or injury (UE USP Contract § 11.1 and Rule 120)

With Board approval, an employee may receive a leave of absence, without pay and without accruing seniority or service credit, for a period of up to one school year. Applications for long-term leave shall be made in writing and shall state the purpose for which leave is requested. All long-term leave agreements shall be in writing and shall state the terms and conditions of the leave, including the conditions governing the employee’s return.
