As you all have heard by now, UESF teachers have announced a strike starting on Monday, February 9. Our Union is supporting the strike in sympathy with the teachers. What does that mean for our members?
Show up to your worksite at your regular time and either join or start a picket line. Wear purple!
We know there are a lot of conflicting messages coming from the District. This is being done intentionally to confuse you. The District does not want to you exercise your constitutional right to support the strike. For far too long, they have taken advantage of our members and they don’t care about creating a safe and healthy environment for students or staff.
What makes us strong is our commitment to the students and our labor. The biggest impact we can make is withholding our labor so our Union is taken seriously. That means we don’t work.
Our members in Oakland Unified School District, Sacramento Unified School District, Solano County and other employees have gone out on strike and have won significant gains to their contracts, both through their own primary strike and sympathy strikes. We think the best hope for the future of SFUSD is to stand alongside our sibling Unions in solidarity. If we don’t stand for something then we stand for nothing.
