20. August 2015 · Comments Off on Union Starts with You: September 8 Rally for Temporary Worker Justice · Categories: Special Events, Stand Up!, Uncategorized, Your Rights

School Board Meeting at 6pm, September 8
Public Comment usually around 7pm
555 Franklin Street, on the 5, 47, and 49 bus lines

Over 200 of our student nutrition workers, 200 of our clerks and school secretaries, and nearly 100 other members of our chapter were improperly and unfairly hired as “temporary exempt” workers.

We are not exempt from justice!
We are not exempt from due process!
We are not exempt from fair pay and benefits!

We Are Not Disposable.

On September 8, join your brothers and sisters at the school board to show our strength and demand a path to permanent status for our temporary workers. We deserve respect and job security.

Do you really want to go to work “as needed” — not knowing if you’ll have a job the next day? RSVP using this form, or email josh@seiu-sfusd.org:

Last year, the San Francisco Board of Education passed the Safe and Supportive Schools Resolution to guarantee greater instructional time for kids that need it most by providing constructive alternatives to suspension and expulsion.

It’s time to tell the district to fully fund their promises to our students. It’s time to provide support in all schools for restorative practices and wraparound services for our families. It’s time to start taking this seriously.

On April 25, we will come together and explore what our families and communities need and how we can make the district accountable to provide that support. Join us at Buena Vista Horace Mann school from 11am – 2pm for an interactive discussion and forum on community goals and priorities. Help set the agenda for next year so we can put our kids before the budget.

SFERS is planning to invest up to 15% of your pension in high-fee, high-risk hedge funds. These funds don’t perform better than average in the market, and their high-ticket managers capture a huge chunk of the profits before returning anything to investors when they actually perform well.

Join us at the Retirement Board on December 3 at 1pm sharp to demand that our pension be kept safe and solvent and out of the pockets of hedge fund managers.
